Creating a stone recipe from polymer clay is an art that blends patience, precision, and passion. I had the pleasure of teaching my turquoise stone tutorial at the Clay Earring Maker Summit this year, to what was my largest audience yet! Creating stones from clay is not just about mixing colors; it's a journey of trial and error. Sometimes, it takes several hours just to nail the base color, especially with translucent clay, which can be quite the beast.

Each stone isn't just a flat color either; it's a multifaceted piece with layers and light. I experiment with clay ratios, mica powders, alcohol inks, gold foil, pens, and gradient canes to capture the essence of natural stones.

The process can take several hours of attempts to get it right, or in a rare burst of inspiration and maybe a little luck, it clicks with very few tweaks from the original attempt. But mostly, it's a dance with color theory and the emotional roller coaster that translucent clay brings, keeping me on my toes.

I pour my heart into each stone, which is why I'm excited to share this journey with you through my tutorials. While I love making each piece, I know I can only reach so many people. I want makers to experience the joy of transforming simple clay into something beautiful and meaningful that people will be proud to wear.
